Friends of West Hollywood Elementary, Receive $12,000 in Donations from McComb OrthodonticsMcComb Orthodontics West Hollywood is giving $12,000 in donations to Friends of West Hollywood Elementary, the parentvolunteer organization that funds music, arts, instructional aides, and physical education at the city's only public elementary school. The gift includes a $2,000 cash donation and two free orthodontic treatment cases, each valued at $5,000, contributed to the Friends of West Hollywood Elementary annual auction. The cash supports programs that Los Angeles Unified School District doesn't fund. The two treatment cases help families to support their school while seeking essential orthodontic care for their kids. "Dr. McComb called us," said Justine Melman, a Friends of West Hollywood Elementary board member. "He didn't wait for a committee to reach out. He said he wanted to invest in these kids. That kind of initiative from a local business is exactly what makes West Hollywood what it is." Dr. Ryan McComb, DMD, is a Harvard-educated dentist and a board-certified, UCLA-educated orthodontist. He is also a gay father practicing orthodontics in West Hollywood with a team that reflects the community he serves. "When I was a kid, I learned to brace myself walking into certain places," McComb said. "That feeling stays with you, and it shapes the kind of room I wanted to build for my patients. Every kid who comes through our door, whatever their family looks like, should feel like they belong there. I wanted to support a school that represents the values I cherish in my own family and in our community as a whole.” Friends of West Hollywood Elementary is the 501(c)(3) parent volunteer organization that funds what LAUSD doesn't, including music, arts, instructional aides, physical education, technology, and field trips. The organization's annual Education Support Fund asks families to contribute $1,950 per student, payable in full or in monthly installments. West Hollywood Elementary draws students from across the city's western corridor, including West Hollywood West, the Norma Triangle, and the neighborhoods flanking the Sunset Strip.
