2018 Hoop It Up Tournament Filling Fast
Going into its 12th year, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s annual Hoop it Up Tournament is steadily receiving team registrations, and some brackets are nearly full.“The Hoop it Up Tournament is popular with teams across the state, thanks to the quality referees used, the class of tournament play and the organization in keeping play on schedule and moving throughout the weekend,” explains Sarah Foley, Program Director with the Carroll Chamber of Commerce. This year’s tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday, February 24 and 25.
The tournament is open to boys teams, grades 3 through 9, and girls teams, grades 5 through 8. Brackets are limited and registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
“A couple of our brackets are already getting quite full, and we anticipate seeing an increase in registrations in the next couple of weeks,” adds Foley. Team registrations are due by Sunday, February 6. The tournament utilizes an electronic registration system, which can be found online at www.carrolliowa.com/hoop-it-up.
All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games over the course of the weekend and the tournament uses certified officials for every game. Awards are given for 1st place in every division and all players receive a tournament t-shirt.
“The really great thing about this tournament is the number of teams and families that come to Carroll and experience our hotels, restaurants and stores during the tournament weekend. Last year we had 90, 10-player teams participating in our tournament, plus their families and friends that came to cheer them on. While they were in town we had an opportunity to showcase all that Carroll offers,” explains Foley. This year, the tournament committee is working with various Chamber members to add more to the weekend for visiting teams, including special team dinner options and entertainment.
