Description
It is commonly believed that the Civil War ended at Appomattox, Virginia on April 9, 1865 when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. However, was that really the case? As the Confederacy was falling apart an estimated 175,000 troops remained in the field and were not included in the surrender. These troops were loosely dispersed throughout the Confederacy. Confederate President Jefferson Davis vowed to keep the war going. Join Park Ranger Ashton Farrell and discover what happened in the weeks and months after Generals Grant and Lees famous meeting at Appomattox. The program is free but reservations are required.
