Description
Join us on Saturday, March 21st at 7pm for the band, Root River Jam.
We're heading back to Cresco Iowa for another show at the Cresco Theater. We can't wait to share our new music! Be ready to sing along to some favorites!!
Root River Jam has a progressive style of American Roots music that merges elements of Country, Rock, Blues and Jazz. Singers David Ross and Charlotte Matis highlight the band’s strong vocal ability, while the group encompasses a musical diversity with playful improvisation, adding a broader dimension to their wide musical appeal.
Root River Jam is preparing to release their newest music "Walk Away" a song about believing in yourself and finding your own path in life. Another new song called “Hideaway” has been finished and is in planning for recording. This song has a subject in social cause and makes a call to action for participants! They are looking to release a full-length album, projecting a single release of 4 songs this coming year 2026, adding to two previous single releases. They are anticipating completion of the album next year!
Their most recent single release “Joy of Something New” was released in 2024.
"Showed Me That You Love Me", the groups previous single, was released in November of 2023.
In November of 2022 the group self-produced and released “Love is Unity”. A double length album inspired by events happening during the pandemic. A call for unity is heard in the ep’s title track.
The group released their debut album in March of 2017. After a wildly successful release party in Rochester, MN they have been traveling to new destinations promoting their music. 2017 proved to be their breakout year and one of transition towards new roads in their musical journey. The group had their first gig in Lanesboro, MN in 2012. This continues to be a favorite area for the band to play. The venue they first played at appears in the song “Dirty Martini” about a bar upstairs.
The band performs the original music of David Ross Wilson(guitar/vocals).
Growing up on a farm as the son of a veterinarian, he helped with work on many farms within the Root River region of MN. He had a large family and his mother taught the siblings to play piano and sing melody and harmony together. His songwriting combines life’s experience of love, longing, and learning with his love for music and share experiences of relationships gained and lost, social conscience, greater good, and good fun with people you love.
Blake Bonde (Upright Bass) a Rochester native and graduate of the University of MN in musical performance. He brings an extended musical vocabulary to their songs! From furious pizzicato to lush arco sounds.
Charlotte Matis (Violin/Fiddle/Vocals) and established musician, teacher, luthier, and music store owner in the Twin Cities. Her fiddling and vocal skills add an exciting depth to their music.
Miles Johnston (Drums/Vocals) has a dynamic style and broad musical background. Bringing rhythmic finesse to their fusion styles. Miles lives just south of the Oak Center General Store near Lake City, MN. He has played with many groups throughout the region.
If you love “American Roots” music, like Mumford and Sons, Dave Matthews and Bonnie Raitt. Then you’ll love Root River Jam. Listeners instantly connect with expressive melodies, improv, and interaction. Recalling the “Jams” of the past and renewing the dreams of the future!
