Do you know anyone struggling with alcoholism or addiction? Chances are you do...and have personal experience with one or both. It can, and most likely will, leave you depleted in all aspects of your life. It affects the young and the old, the educated and uneducated, the wealthy and the poor. The disease does not discriminate, and there should be no shame in being afflicted or affected.
There are many treatment programs specifically designed to help the addict or alcoholic who is insured. However there are many people who are not insured and are suffering, with no means of obtaining the help they need and want.
We have found many addicts and alcoholics need and want help, but are unable to access it due to lack of, or inadequate medical insurance. If they have state or county funded insurance they are put on a 30 to 60 day waiting list for admission. When an addict or alcoholic is asking for help, waiting 30 to 60 days could be a death sentence.
Shelter for Change is a non-profit organization whose founder has personal experience with all aspects of this disease. Our belief is that anyone suffering with addiction or alcoholism, and is looking for help, should get treatment regardless of their financial situation. It is our goal to help as many active addicts and alcoholics get into treatment facilities; to 'Shelter them for the 'Change needed to begin living their lives free of alcohol and drugs.
SFC is able to provide food and basic necessities for those residing in its 15 bed Sober Living Home through donations made by caring people in the community. Furthermore, SFC distributes over 2000 lbs. of food to the homeless, the elderly, Veterans and families in need, on a weekly basis.
To grow and expand the help to those in need, we must ask for help...we are in need of the following items: Food (perishable and non-perishable), paper products, personal hygiene, household cleaners, laundry soaps, bedding, non-sellable display items and products, monetary donations, etc. We are also requesting volunteer aid from professionals such as Dentists, Doctors, Therapists and Drug and Alcohol Counselors. Many recovering addicts and alcoholics have neglected their health for so long and are in dire need of these types of services.
Shelter for Change sincerely appreciates your consideration and hope you will 'partner' with us in our mission to help those suffering with addiction, their families and their communities.
