For 63 years, Williams has been meeting the needs of the community in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions for hardware, lumber, building materials, millwork, masonry and more. The Williams family and staff are committed to providing unsurpassed excellence in service, quality & price, seven days a week, at their nine locations throughout the Hudson Valley. Stan Williams first started Williams Lumber in 1946, when he purchased the Gibson Lumber Company on East Market Street in Rhinebeck, NY. In 1963, the company expanded to two locations when it purchased the Salt Point Supply Company in Salt Point, NY.
In 1968, 22 years after it was purchased, the existing Rhinebeck store was closed, and a new lumberyard was constructed north of Rhinebeck on Route 9. The new building provided 5500 sq. ft. of retail space. By 1980, a business had grown substantially and it was necessary to undertake a major renovation to double the store size to 13,000 sq. ft. Five years later, the Rhinebeck store was again expanded to 28,000 sq. ft. designated as an Ace store of the future.
Williams added a third location in 1989 when it purchased the Greenport Building Supply Company south of Hudson, NY. This new location experienced a complete renovation and expansion.
From 1990-92, the Rhinebeck store was once again updated to its existing layout. New display fixtures were added, and a great deal of additional inventory was added to provide a tremendous selection of merchandise for our customers. The store is now the largest independent home center in the area.
