Stony Creek Horsemen's Association
The Stony Creek Horsemen's Association, founded in 1939, has a long-standing tradition of hosting the Stonyford Rodeo and Parade. Initially inspired by local ranch celebrations known as the "Gay Nineties" events, the Association was established to ensure the annual rodeo's continuity and success. Over the decades, this community event has evolved under the auspices of the California Cowboy Association and later, the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, achieving professional recognition and drawing increasing crowds.
The Association has navigated significant challenges, including devastating fires in 1950 and 1960 that necessitated extensive rebuilding efforts. These efforts led to the construction of new facilities, such as grandstands, an arena, and essential infrastructure improvements. Milestones include the introduction of new events like Barrel Racing in 1962 and Mutton Bustin' in 1979, which have become beloved traditions. The commitment to enhancing the rodeo experience for both participants and spectators has been unwavering, marked by continuous upgrades and the addition of amenities such as campgrounds and refreshment stands.
Today, the Stony Creek Horsemen's Association stands as a testament to community spirit and dedication. Located at PO Box 237, Stonyford, California, the Association continues to uphold its mission of providing a premier rodeo experience. For inquiries, please contact us at 530-517-0591.
