The University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) in Grand Forks is dedicated to improving healthcare in North Dakota and beyond. Established in 1905, SMHS remains the state's only medical school, producing many of North Dakota’s practicing physicians and health professionals. With a commitment to both rural and underserved communities, the school operates programs across the state, focusing on family and community medicine, medical research, and public health.

Beyond education, SMHS emphasizes hands-on training and research through its expansive clinical simulation center and partnerships across medical and research facilities. Through these resources, it prepares students to address real-world healthcare challenges while advancing medical innovation. The school continues to grow its influence in medical research and education, consistently working to meet healthcare needs in rural and urban settings.
