The Braille Institute Santa Barbara regional center, established in 1983 and dedicated in its custom-built 11,000 square foot facility in 2004, is uniquely designed to serve individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It features teaching and instruction spaces, a library, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and a technology center, alongside art, music, and instructional rooms. These facilities support a variety of programs focused on independent living skills, orientation and mobility, and general enrichment.
The center offers classes such as Poetry of Rock, Beginning Ceramics, and Book Chat, as well as essential services like Orientation & Mobility Consultations and Introduction to JAWS for Windows. Additionally, the center extends its reach through monthly community outreach for low vision services in Solvang and Ventura, and hosts a weekly Book Club. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to empowering and educating those with vision loss to live without barriers.
