Founded in 2008 by rum visionary Karen Hoskin, Montanya Distilling set out to do something no one thought possible: craft world-class American rum at high altitude. Inspired by the mountain rum traditions of Central and South America and the volcanic islands of the Caribbean, Montanya blends time-honored techniques with innovation, sustainability, and meticulous craftsmanship. Rooted in Colorado’s rugged landscape, the distillery redefined expectations of where exceptional rum can be made, earning a reputation for challenging convention while producing award-winning spirits that reflect both art and science.

Now based at 9,000 feet in Crested Butte, Montanya entered an exciting new chapter in December 2023 with a leadership team deeply connected to its legacy. Former head distillers Megan Campbell and Renée Newton, alongside marketing veteran Sean W. Richards, carry forward Montanya’s pioneering spirit. United by shared values and a bold vision, the team remains dedicated to honoring the distillery’s trailblazing roots while continuing to elevate American rum through exceptional quality, authenticity, and mountain-born character.
