NAMI Tallahassee, Inc. is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), serving Leon County and surrounding areas. Since its incorporation in 1989, the organization has been dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals living with mental illness, their families, and the broader community. As part of a nationwide network of over 1,200 affiliates, NAMI Tallahassee connects people to peer-led programs, including Connection and family support groups, Family-to-Family Education, NAMI Basics for parents and caregivers, Sharing Hope for African American communities, Crisis Intervention Training for law enforcement, and Ending the Silence for high school students. These programs offer safe, supportive environments where participants can gain knowledge, share experiences, and find community.
NAMI Tallahassee also hosts the annual Bluebird Run/Walk for Brookie B each Labor Day, which raises funds and awareness for suicide prevention and supports the Loss Team of the Big Bend. As an all-volunteer organization, NAMI Tallahassee relies on community support, fundraising, and membership dues to sustain its mission-driven programs. In 2015, the affiliate obtained independent 501(c)(3) non-profit status, further strengthening its capacity to serve as a trusted local resource for mental health education, advocacy, and community connection.
