The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is a Texas-based public power, water, and community services organization established by the Texas Legislature in 1934 to serve the people of Texas. With roots dating back to the Great Depression, LCRA built the chain of dams that brought flood control and electricity to rural Central Texas, laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and regional stability.
Today, LCRA continues its mission to enhance the quality of life for Texans through water stewardship, energy, and community service. The organization produces and delivers electric power, manages the lower Colorado River, provides a reliable water supply, operates public parks, and supports community development. LCRA is financially self-sustaining, funded primarily through electricity generation and transmission revenues, and does not rely on state appropriations or tax authority.
