Founded on a shared vision in 1961, the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust grew from a small group of passionate citizens committed to protecting the rich culture, traditions, and heritage of Columbus. What began as the Magnolia Homes Tour, Inc. evolved into a beloved nonprofit supported by donors and history advocates across Texas. The annual spring festival, held during peak magnolia bloom around the Courthouse Square, became a signature event that drew thousands of visitors, celebrated historic homes and landmarks, and partnered with the Live Oak Art Center to spotlight local artists, entertainment, cuisine, and antiques. This enduring tradition helped establish Columbus as a destination where history and community come together.
In 1999, the organization officially became the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust, allowing it to focus fully on preserving and maintaining historic properties, including the iconic Stafford Opera House, restored to serve once again as a vibrant space for community gatherings. Beyond stewardship of historic sites, the Trust is dedicated to sharing the story of Columbus with visitors while strengthening community ties through engaging events and educational experiences. By honoring the past and bringing history to life, the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust continues to invest in a meaningful and inspiring future for generations to come.
