Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (AARS), founded in 1982 by Leonard and Henrietta Nugen, is one of Alaska’s oldest adult residential substance abuse treatment programs. For over 40 years, AARS has provided client-centered care to adults living with substance use disorder and co-occurring disorders, serving individuals from across the State of Alaska in a structured and supportive environment.

The program integrates twelve-step recovery, individual and group counseling, life skills training, vocational education, and work therapy on 116 acres of farmland known as Nugen’s Ranch in Point Mackenzie, Wasilla. Through meaningful work, education, and daily participation in AA/NA meetings, clients develop practical skills, self-worth, and lasting recovery support systems that promote long-term sobriety and personal stability.
