Amy Walen
Amy Walen, a resident of Kirkland, Washington, has been deeply involved in her community since moving to the area with her husband Jim in 2005. Originally from Oregon, Amy graduated from the University of Queensland Law School and practiced law in Australia before returning to Oregon in 1994. After relocating to Kirkland, she and her husband acquired an interest in Ford of Kirkland and have operated it since then.
In 2005, Amy completed treatment for breast cancer and returned to work at Ford/Hyundai of Kirkland. She became actively involved in community outreach, and fundraising for organizations such as the Evergreen Hospital Cancer Center, Meow, Old Dog Haven, Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Kirkland Downtown Association, and KITH (Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing). Additionally, she organized blood drives and highway cleanups through the "Adopt a Highway" program.
With nearly 20 years of experience as Chief Financial Officer for companies with revenue exceeding $100 million per year, Amy has demonstrated strong leadership skills. Under her guidance alongside her husband Jim's leadership, Ford of Kirkland has grown into Ford-Hyundai of Kirkland - the largest volume retailers for Ford and Hyundai in the state of Washington. The dealership employs 120 people in Totem Lake and is deeply involved in the local community.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Amy was elected to the Kirkland City Council in 2009 and served as Mayor in 2014. She is also a proud stepmother to Josh, Ryan, and Rachel while serving as legal guardian to her nephew Josh who attends Lake Washington High School.
Elected to represent the district in the State House of Representatives in 2018, Amy believes that effective leadership involves listening to diverse opinions and developing comprehensive policies that consider all points of view. Her priorities include affordable housing, carbon reduction initiatives, sensible gun legislation, human rights advocacy, and supporting small businesses.
