Starbucks
Starbucks' journey commenced in 1971 within Seattle's historic Pike Place Market, where our first store offered a diverse selection of freshly roasted coffee beans, teas, and spices to bring home. The name "Starbucks" was inspired by the classic tale of "Moby-Dick," reflecting the maritime heritage of early coffee trading. A pivotal moment came when Howard Schultz joined in 1982, after being captivated by Starbucks coffee. Following a trip to Milan in 1983, Schultz returned to infuse the warmth and artistry of Italian coffee culture into Starbucks, leading to a transformation into a genuine coffeehouse in 1987. This marked the beginning of our journey to becoming a global presence, with stores established across the US, Japan, Europe, and China. Central to our existence is Our Mission, dedicated to nurturing the infinite possibilities of human connection.
